by Ryan Fuller

As we go, and face our new lives,
We understand the past and realize it isn’t a disguise,
We see that it was a life that we loved and cherished,
But we know we have to move on.

We will miss many friends that we have been with for these years,
And when we go through that last receiving line,
we know that there will be lots of tears,
But we know we have to move on.

All of those good and bad memories make you so sad,
And some of them you wish you never had,
But when you take a hold of all your friends’ hands,
You know it’s time to move on.

You don’t know what your future will bring you,
But you just hope that you can see your friends once again,
But you know you have to move on,
And one wish is to bring your friends along.

Three people in silhouette

This poem first appeared in the Kurn Hattin Bulletin, Summer 2001 edition. Ryan’s poem is included in this website because he shows that our efforts count. When such young people graduate from our programs it gives us a pride in purpose in our (often) un-rewarded jobs, and the enthusiasm to continue in our work.
